Principle 2: Identifying the Learning Outcome
This activity enables learners to access the key points of the learning outcome by breaking down the instructional language into colour features. All too often science language can seem verbose and overwhelming for ELL’s. Colour coding words for emphasis helps to engage students with the context and task requirements to support their learning.
Many ELL’s may struggle to understand or recall the names of equipment needed to support the learning outcome. Spending some time preparing a visual resource that names and features an image of the equipment needed, can be so valuable to the learning outcome. ELL’s literally breathe a sigh of relief and smile when these resources are given out or projected via Teams.
